Blessing of the Animals Sunday, Oct 9th at 3:30pm at the Whitefield Center Garden “Does your pet need prayer? It may not get your turtle out of its shell or your cat off the car, but a blessing will ask for the Lord to keep your beloved pet in His care for health, joy and long life for its sake and for your family’s blessing too. All pets are welcome to come and receive a blessing from one of our clergy.”

“The godly care for their animals” Proverbs 12:10
The Blessing of the Animals is a tradition associated with the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi (Oct 4th) who is known for his affection for and ministry to animals. Upon hearing from Mark’s gospel the words of Jesus, “And he said to them, ‘Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation,'” (16:15) Francis began from then on to preach the gospel to people as well as to animals. This is one reason he is known from blessing animals. He gave up all possessions yet appreciated and celebrated all creation!
