Event Series: Art In the Parlor

Art In the Parlor

March 6 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Art in the Parlor is a monthly artist reception and show for a featured local artist. Join us to meet and greet some very blessed talent.

Chris Roberts:  Chris is a local self-taught primative/folk artist who specializes in painting Savannah scenes.  His “Peaceable Kingdom” series of Savannah Squares.  His work draws inspiration from artists such as Edward Hicks and Howard Finster. You can listen to Chris describe his work in this podcast.

Rudolph “Rudy” Valentino Bostic: Bostic was born on August 16, 1944, in Savannah, Georgia.  He passed away in 2021.  At the age of 17, Rudy was asked to draw some religious paintings to be displayed his church (Second African Baptist).  To save on expenses, he used cardboard from his job at Derst Baking Company.  His favorite subjects were scenes from the bible.  He had great enthusiasm for his art and loved to share his vision with others.  His work is featured in various museums and galleries including the Mennello Museum Of American Folk Art, in Orlando, Florida.

Brian Dennison:  CCA’s Brian will offer some works to accentuate the offerings from Bostic that will be part of his “Gospel According to Rudy” project that he will launch after the March Parlor show.

Some regulars from the Savannah Sacred Harp SIngers will belt out a few shape note hymns on the front steps with a few appropriately southern refreshments.
